Laxton Group to open new facility in Guangzhou

Saturday, January 27th, 2016

Citing strong performance in the company’s GovernmentID business, kiosk and handheld device firm Laxton Group has revealed plans to launch a new production facility in Guangzhou, China.

Laxton said the new facility will help it meet fast-growing demand for its highly customized ID-based solutions, noting growth driven by projects in Africa, such as recent elections in Tanzania, where the company’s biometric enrolment kits were instrumental in ensuring voter-registration system integrity.

Lyle Charles Laxton, Group CEO, commented: "2015 has been an exceptional year for the Laxton Group and its subsidiaries and we have exceeded our aggressive growth plan by far."

"Our GovernmentID business unit has successfully delivered more than 8,000 biometric enrolment kits for the Tanzanian elections via a contract with Lithotech in South Africa."

Lithotech, a division of Bidvest PaperPlus, won the contract from the Tanzanian Election Commission in 2014 and outsourced the manufacture of the biometric kits to Laxton.

Nelson Pereira, Group COO, added: "This large order has enhanced what was already a good year for the group. Our Banking & Financial Service (BFSI) and Kiosk business units have excelled, and key to this success has been our South African subsidiary, which has again delivered very strong results."

The modern five-story building, located close to Laxton’s current main production facility, will also enable the company to expand its technical production capabilities.
